germination

this 2ft by 4ft patch of dark earth is meant to be parsnips, only about 6 have geminated and they are growing very poorly. it was new F1 seed so I can only think the bed may have been too dry . letttuce at the end under old bird cages to stop the cats peeing on them. the beans on the left all germinated fine .

Interesting grid. Is that a part of the square foot method? Sorry about your parsnips! I've never grown them as I don't think we'd like them...

No consolation but we've had the same problem with parsnips and also carrots (I've tried 5 different types) & beetroot. V.poor germination.

Wildside, the grid is to stop the cats peeing on it, I 'll take it off when the plants are big enough to cope.
Muthuselah, actually the beetroot did not d o too well either, but better than the parsnips, carrots have been ok.
