Catching up with several of your lovely posts at once. I was offline for a while.

I was thinking about compost today and shaking my head at the way we waste our resources. I may start a garden (on a very small scale) next year and I'm going to check the local ordinances on compost, etc.

Can't believe summer is almost over but our mornings are growing cooler each day.

we had a very hard frost last night - i had to take the gas-burner to work this morning, as i have an appointment over lunch, and i had to scrape the frost off the windshield. i didn't have time to check them, but hope the pelargoniums were in a protected enough spot... must be time to bring them into the porch for the winter.

Grannyfiddler, frost already??? aarrghhh! my pelagoniums hide in the greenhouse for the winter, but they are still on my doorstep flowering just now.

Those are beautiful blooms - I wish I had some like that. Tonight may be the end of my garden with temps down to -4c.

That top flower looks alien so close up! I like the little fly - it's a great colour contrast.

Such beautiful flowers. I especially like the top one and how there's all those little circles/cones almost like a honey comb or the collars they used to wear back in (I think about) Henry Vlll time frame. I agree with Madcap that the little green fly is an addition to the interest of the photo... though know the flower judge wouldn't likely see it that way, haha.

I'm glad you were finally able to get to my blog. I hope your computer problems are soon a thing of the past. Have you tried Reba's Run?? http://rebasrun.blogspot.com See if you can get on there any easier.

Kate, thats a shame, its sad when everything fades.
Madcap, it does look a bit weird,I didn't noice he fly ill I looked at the photo on the pc.
Peppylady, I like this one, some dahlia are big spikey things, not so pretty.
Alice, patterns in nature, it does look like the collar!

These dahlias are so beautifully formed. It's a flower I haven't grown much yet, but I'd love to plant some. I fell in love with them when I saw them paired with coleus at The Cornell Plantations last year. Theirs were absolutely gorgeous!
I clicked the link and read about the entries. What fun! :)
