I've been reading a lot of permaculture stuff online recently.A lot of it is very big scale, not really applying to a ''small'' garden like mine, so pleased to find this article about a more average type of house. https://midwestpermaculture.com/2008/12/front-yard-rain-garden-and-berm/Its also interesting to note that a lot of permaculture goes on and on and on about saving water, well that really doesn't apply in the west of Scotland ... you just about turn around and it rains again. LOL.

Claire, of gardens, yours really is quite beautiful! Is the green grassy area yours or just the bit to the back with garden & greenhouse?
Rain gardens have been a big talking point in this region too. We don't get enough water in Summer so need to supplement and put up with things up & dying (which I do), but too much rain falls from the sky the rest of the year... I don't have a rain garden, but my property slopes downhill to the well so... (?) There certainly is a lot of advice out there about how to do them.

P.S. Can you check something for me? I've put the "for my eyes only" feature on at my blog so I can just be silly as I want to there, but I can't tell if it is working or not. If you click on the butterfly, then to my blog, do you get the message saying that it is currently private?

If you don't have rules governing such, I'm sure there is quite a lot of permaculture you could put into and get out of that front grassy bit! I think I remember now that it is yours. ?

the photograph is old and the ''front'' grassy part doesn't look like that any more, the shrubs have taken over and the young sapling is now the height of the house and shades half the garden out. I like a bit of grass to cut, the blackbirds and the thrushes like a lawn to pick worms out from too

Hi Claire, I keep checking back in to see what's up (I have no longer discipline]... This morning I am just wondering if it is ok to send you snail mail at your home address now? I know things have been quite a bit up in the air for you, so not at all sure... Or if you've gotten the other wee packages of silliness I've sent? (Just meant to slightly liven the mood so many grey and rainy days [no other reason] -- there -- as it is here...). I also do wonder what your current plans are -- but that is your own business -- not mine, of course!
i've lot of plans... painting, decorating, carpets , furniture... but I stall at starting so may never finish. the garden needs a lot of work too.... so overwhelmed. your mail is very welcomed, and emails or snail mail always welcomed, thank you for keeping in touch xx
