poppy volunteer

in amongst the leeks! one of the joys of not being a great weeder is having lovely things like this appear.
the weather can only be described as 'continuing dreich', I cannot even cut the grass and am having to pay somebody to cut it regularly, and I like cutting grass and can't really afford the extra expenditure, thats how bad it is!!

Pretty, pretty!

Yes, I like those surprises too much! (Have trouble weeding here, like to see what will come up, then don't want to kill anything!)

So sorry about your weather not cooperating, Claire. Just when we thought Autumn & winter was setting in, forecast calling for a few sunny days in a row here, may be another tomato will ripen yet?!

Wildside, it is pretty, the first bloom is over and the second two are about to be blown away!! hope for some calm next week after this weekends bad forecast.

Beautiful photo - nasty weather :)

But Claire, Claire... it's almost fall and almost winter. Maybe 2009 will be warmer and drier.

(We had a similar summer so don't think I'm teasing...)

i love those volunteers. if not for volunteers, some years my garden would be beyond redemption. i had lots of poppy volunteers at the last place. an elderly neighbor who keeps a much more regimented garden than i once scowled at my flocks of poppies and said "they're weeds!" i replied "i have to confess that i encourage them" .... then he scowled at me. i'm sure he lived in dread of my weedy poppies planning a hostile takeover of his tidy plot. he was down wind of me.

just dropped in to tell you i've put your last autumn picture of the leaf against the brick and gravel on my desktop in celebration of the season. the photo is every bit as gorgeous in 08 as it was in 07.

As always, Claire, all the photos of your flowers and all else in your garden are fabulous. Black tomatoes, how odd. I like them.

Gary, yup, fall/autumn, some trees here are starting to change colour already, and its getting dark early. yuck!
GF, volunteers always welcome! they suit my lack of weeding style. am going to look up that photo..
Alice, grew the black ones for interest and they taste good too!
