snow!

After a lovely sunny morning weeding and being busy in the garden I drove off to meet my gardening friend at Finlaystone, which opens under the Scottish gardens scheme and has a plant sale twice a year. After paying our entry fees we bought some plants, in the shelter of a nice poly tunnel, just as it started to snow. We decided to have a cup of hot chocolate in the tea room to sit it out. The gardens are lovely so its worth a good afternoons walk. It kept snowing. Then it snowed a bit more. Deciding that was it for the day we set off to her mothers for a cup of tea, lamenting paying entry to a garden we did not get to see, but the money is for charity so its a donation for a good cause. After we left Finlaystone the sun came out. It stayed out. Marvellous. Ha.

Came by here for a break of distraction! Lovely to see your photo of the daffodills in the snow... That's a rare sight here. When is your last frost date there? Ours is this coming Saturday...

OK, my break's over. Best get back outside and help hubby in the trenches. We're almost to the end. Thanks for the breather and a bit of entertainment, Claire!

Wildside, we can get ground frost right into May, in fact we have some this morning, the weather is not as cold as it was. a couple of times last week the greenhouse themometer was at or below 0ÂșC, I am itching to plant stuff outside as I think I started at this time last year, but really it needs to warm up a bit more.
Connie, we did enjoy our cup of tea, and we had fuit cake too, of course by then the snow had completely disapeared!!

Claire, I'll admit I'm avoiding the last bit of digging at the moment...

You mentioned somewhere else that your daughter even wears her heavy makeup out at the farm... A cousin of mine went through this too -- and actually I'm not sure if she still does it or not as it went on for many years until it was just a part of who she was. I couldn't understand it, but accepted it since that is what she wanted to do. She's a very pretty girl (now woman) but felt the need to paint her face with a thick layer first thing everyday, which actually masked her beauty. Looking back, it may have had something to do with our family always expecting perfection from us (hers especially) and our insecurities about being country kids bussed into town for school with more "sophisticated" kids. My parents were extremely old-fashioned religious, and frowned on presenting something other than what you naturally were, so I wasn't allowed to and didn't adopt her style. I learned people have to either accept me as I am or not. But I guess the makeup mask really was healthier for her in the long run than being anorexic (which was what she was before starting to paint her face). She still loves plants and now in her thirties is back to that as a profession, so may be that has been some of a cure and sense of well-being and security for her...

Don't know if this story will be of any any help to you, but I thought I'd share it... Because perhaps this is just a phase your daughter is going through as she experiments with self expression and being her own person... And less harmful than other ways...

Sorry for so much info this AM with my rambling story (perhaps too much?)! But the comparison between the two photos make me see how you might miss your little girl... And reminds me of the transformation of my cousin into a teen!

Yes, this is just a phase. Her discovering who she is. She will grow into herself soon enough!
