Looks good! Your pumpkins made it to a little bigger than mine. I was planning/hoping for a bumper crop, but wound up with just three tiny ones...

And a second glance around the garden shows several other pumpkin and squash (I even have them growing in trees!). But still all too small to really add much to the count. If I bring them in I usually leave the vine on my pumpkins to ripen (because I heard somewhere they are considered ripe when the vine dies off). Do you have anything to add to this wee bit of knowledge?!

Does people in Scottland curve their pumpkins into Jack o" Lanterns? for Halloween

Gurt Massive ! Well done. I've grown nine that size this year up my allotment, but apparently there's a thief about, so I've had to cycle home with them in a rucsack...nearly broke my bike !
Not sure how well they ripen in the dark - I always let mine sunbathe.

Wildside, I found this http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/veggies/pumpkin1.html
actually little squahes might be better, to store and use, but these big ones are fun. do they climb up the trees?
Peppylady, we do carve them into lanterns, also big turnips, which is harder because they do not have the soft centre to start you off.
I will post a picture at halloween.
Green Lung, good growing! they are quite heavy, you should maybe get/build a trailer for your bike.

My goodness you would think that if you can grow pumpkins in Scotland I could grow them here. Not so far. We are still working on the soil. Winter has sent us a warning and the garden is now defunct. Last of the tomatos are in and now to get the ground ready for next year. Love your pictures and garden.

Ramblin, by luck I think I cut them just in time, the weather here now is really wet stormy horrible! gardening mostly over here too.

I hope you'll be making some pumpkin pies with some of those little darlings, Claire! Yum!

Becky, the pumpkins are very pleasing, I've been kayaking at the club regularly on MOndays all summer but its finished now, hope to get out at weekends sometime
Michael, soup, pie and stew all on the menu, jsut the thing to warm you up after kayaking in the cold!

Lost my post...Were the pumpkins hard to grow?
I want to do stuff for the kids. I have a patch of dirt..but would take a fair bit of work to get it ready for growing things in it.
I like bees too. I love them dragging their heavy pollen laden legs around.

And love thursdays were inspired by http://www.chookooloonks.com. A day for photos or stories of love.

A nice idea.
