I tried to

photograph this table (in the library at Kilmartin), but it has a high sheen and reflects too much. I'm going to try again this weekend.
its large and quite beautiful, I think I may have posted about it before.
I may be in the library for some time. . . .

I am going on my fifth permaculture course this weekend, looking forward to the drive in my newly 'fixed' old banger. fingers crossed!!

WOW! what a neat table. Very interesting inlay work, indeed. See if you can get it into the car and ship it off to me (the table, that is... the car seems a bit iffy). I want it... LOL

wow, that is cool! Now if you can just steal it, and ship it. . . :)

Sorry Derrick, I asked her to steal it first! Now, hands off! Remember, they got guns on the Great Lakes now, so... ;-)

well, maybe we can cut it in half and have a side table each!

Michael and Derrick, naughty naughty. the table was craftsman built inside the library and it will not fit through either door or window. so if you have a team able to knock down half the building and actually lift the thing(solid wood as in bits of trees not planks)you can come over and try. it should float fairly well though so 'first round raft across the sea' headline coming up then?

Cool table!
Hey, I wanted to ask you and the other nature experts...

When I was ploutering about outside with the kids the other day I was reminiscing about the 'fairy rings' that used to be on the grass down at Silver Knowes....

What were they? How did they form?

Any idea???

I miss fairy things from the UK...I need to make a fairy village or something for the kids.

Hmm... I don't know, Claire. Would HALF of it fit through the door? Maybe those two are on to something with splitting it in half! :)

Gorgeous table... and I'm enjoying your blog in general. (I found it through your comment on realmud garden.)

Crunchy -
We have 'fairy rings' in Canada. They're formed by a species of fungus, which send out root-like shoots under the ground in such a way as to eventually form a circle (more or less). At a certain point in it's life-cycle the fungus produces the part above ground which we see: the 'fairy ring' of little toadstools. The next question is, do we turn into fairies if we eat the fungi?

Michael, I haven't seen them form over here....I need to try to coax the local fungi around here to grow like that...it would make the kids go nuts!

I used to sit in the fairy rings wishing they would take me away!
