the grey concrete steps into the house, refusing to be brightened up by plant pots. now, what colours does concrete paint come in? and metal paint, to co-ordinate the black railings?
meantime the heatwave goes on, not suffering from a hosepipe ban here, I soak the veggies every two to three days. there is a tarpaulin over the greenhouse to try to prevent it overheating and today I am watering the flower border for the first time this year. I have a camping chair to sit in, as I can move it to get shade here and there so I don't burn to a frazzle, also have on factor 25 sunblock and still tanning! great, good week to be on holiday!

Holiday! Well enjoy it, Claire! I hope you get a good soaking rain soon.
Personally I think your step looks lovely as is. Very welcoming.
Concrete paint comes in all different types of colors -- metal paints as well! Go ahead and have some fun with it!
I think it would be neat just to paint an interesting design on the risers... But lucky one, you get to decide!
(Notice, I'm not painting my own, but rather getting excited at the prospect of someone else taking on this project!).
great photos, it is really hot here. 100 degrees. i got my chick by mail from a hatchery. everone over the water is amazed that we can buy chicks and have them sent by post.
It is hot here too (in Texas) - thanks for visiting my blog and commenting! I thought I would tell you that a while back, I posted about Monticello from our vacation and I got some GREAT flower pics that you might be interested in looking at - because you have some awesome flower pics all the time on your blog...anyway, I don't have the link, but it was from maybe a week or two ago and the title is something about "Monticello" which is Thomas Jefferson's home.
It's 41.1 C here (106 F) with no end in sight.
Almost everyone I talk to on this side of the pond says it's the hottest summer they can remember.
I hope yours breaks soon.
Just went on a search for Monticello which led me to another blog to visit.
Here the pics are. They were a little slow loading for me but they're there and worth it.
Monticello
Just found your blog through Granny...the Campsie hills are sooo beautiful!
Went for many a drive in them with my folks when I was small!
I grew up in Lenzie and then Edinburgh but haven't lived in Scotland for over 25 years now.
And a very nice garden too.
I won't show you mine as it is filled with tonka toys.
Madcapmum, scotland being itself, I think its going to rain today. I like the pots on the doorstep but the grey is just too grey!
Wildside, I will have to look at whats available, possibley taking a friend as I have no colour sense.
Patsy, you're hotter than we are.
Sunshine, just checked out your flowers are great.
Granny, thanks for putting that link in. and its a bit cooler here today.
Crunch Carpets, thanks for visiting, how did you end up over there? your parenting skills seem fine to me!
What weather we have been having!
I'd suggest a white- would look good against the dark railings and really show up the plant pots. You can buy white rough or smooth textured masonary paint. The only problem is when you start you'll need to paint once a year- depends on the traffic. White is also a good base colour if you choose to change at a later date.
I have loads of moss in my grass too- is a sloping lawn and the water tends to run to the bottom - more moss! I use it for my hanging baskets- something out of it l suppose because if l were to try and rake it up they'd be nothing left-lol.
Bests,
My front steps are painted *battleship gray* - looks like yours - I try to think of it as a serene color and spruce it up with potted plants.
Horizon, I never tought about having to re-do it every year, maybe I'll just leave it.
Laurahinnj, I'll try to think of them as serene then! more pots!
