after a dismal, cold and wet summer, they are just sitting in the greenhouse and not ripening at all, I've been brining in a hanfull every coupleof days to ripen and eat. now i'm just about to collect in another seed tray full and that will be all of them.
there have been some nice broad beans to munch on , they are nearly finished now. little turnips early on, and there are nice leeks waiting to get bigger before eating.
not much success with anything else this year.

Claire, That seems to be the same thing here -- not too much success -- tho' I've been sizzling in our heat and so expected things to get ripe! last year, tomatoes and more were incredible, but I had to bring them in and I just laid them in any windowsill, any countertop, everywhere! and there were so many... so I just stuck them in the freezer once they finally got ripe enough because I didn't want to do the processing...thanks to you I was encouraged to grow leeks this year, so have been living off daily harvests of the greens... my stinky cat says hello to beans... and tells her told "hold your ground!" lol
And a p.s. : I remember you telling me how your mother grew mushrooms under her bed in a drawer... I would love to learn more about what she did and how she did it! someday, perhaps, growing and trusting mushrooms will be a thing for me. Others aren't as afraid to do this sort of thing. Already there are some mushrooms growing beneath my houseplants, but have no idea if that kind is edible -- it happened purely by chance!!!
BTW, maybe I could pop up to see you while you are in Canada -- I think it can be done -- I just don't want to intrude on your reunion with dear old friends! (this would be a p.s. to emails sent yesterday)
