several weeks ago I recieved a mushroom growing kit for my birthday. I very carefully followed all the instructions. and here we have some growing!
there looks to be a good harvest coming!
outside in the below freezing temperatures this kaffir lily, usually autmn flowering, seems to be making a bid to join the lonely mahonia.
and the muck? I started a 'saturday job' yesterday. mucking out seven horses, turning them in and out, filling haynets, etc. I survived, but only just. it was easier twenty years ago.

Is the flower in your greenhouse, or outside?!
Are the mushrooms under your bed?!
(Remembering an idea you once told me...)
Good job on getting the spare horsey job, Claire! Suits you. You'll be busy for sure, but in good company.
Oh, and happy birthday, after the fact! Sorry I didn't realize...
Everybody, why don't we pitch in a sing Claire our greetings from whereever we may be sitting?!?!
Oooh, sorry, I'm a bit way off key...
(Not to mention typos; that "a" should be an "and" up there.)
But, Claire,none-the-less, many best wishes for the year ahead to lead you in directions you might actually like to go in? I'll go ahead and wish for that too.
Wildside, I never tell anybody when its my birthday. the flower is outside, surprisingly. I think it'll get frozen off. the mushrooms started off in the living room where they were to be warm, then moved to the shelf behind the front door where its cooler, but think it would be too cold outside, and too warm under my bed. it seems to have worked anyway.
i sing out of tune too.
Hi Claire,
My turn to wish you a happy birthday.
Owen.
I love Mushroom.
Owen, cheers!
Dora, it'll be a good thing to eat some that have actually grow here.
Time for a nice cheese and mushroom omelet! Good photos.
Gary, fabulous idea, i'll have to check every day now to see if they're ready to be cooked yet.
Nelson looks under a lot of snow.
Happy birthday! Happy mushrooming! (that doesn't look difficult at all... I've never been able to quite figure it out - are those kits a one-time-harvest? or it is something that you can replicate in an ongoing manner?)
Tara, the kit says it will produce a big flush and then a few smaller ones, then it will 'run out'.
Can you send me some horse manure for my garden?
Kidding. That's not just a job, that's a workout. You wanted to get back in shape for the kayaking, right?
Stop by Frogma if you have a moment here in the holiday season - I think you'll enjoy the last couple of posts especially!
A very happy belated birthday Claire! I'm singing along with Wildside :)
Oooh, mushrooms...yum! That omelet sounds delicious. I'm glad to know someone who is actually trying one of those kits...I've wondered about them. Yours look good!
Amazing lily!
Ouch...sorry about those sore muscles. You'll be fit for kayaking in no time!
