the good old days

I thought I'd try to scan some pictures in, I used to work with horses and this is taken at a farm called 'Shawhill', where many a grand adventure was had. I worked there for a lady called Catherine McDowall, she died a couple of years ago having reached her early 70's, she is missed.
This is Paddy, in his Sunday harness and on his best behaviour, getting ready to do the church run for Catherine and her friend, and no, he didn't mind getting to go to sleep for an hour tied up outside. He liked to have a doze now and again.
I am not sure if the scanner has picked up the finer points in this photograph, for instance you can't tell he kicks and bites, and runs away occasionally; Catherine used to call this having 'character'. ha.

Claire, is is that some of us just have TOO MUCH 'character', eh?!

Lowa, I like to pop over and visit for your family updates, I'm sure I am not the only one reading.
Wildside, Catherine had plenty of character herself, as did all her horses, it was an 'interesting' time!!

Wnen our father died in 1988 , my sisters and I started to research our family. we had some names and places because my grandfather had passed these on to me. The reason we were able to find so much is our family was in court all the time from 1740 until after the civil war 1865. all generations were in court in va. ,ky. and mo. we had a lot of ancestorys who broke the law and ended up in court in law suits. there was records in ever county seat where they lived. they made us laught and at times we shed tears. but we had a very good time doing the search.

You posted a comment on my sister's Patsy's blog. She answered it above...here is my response...
Oh Claire, “The Three Sisters” have done an insurmountable amount of researching on our family’s history. The First Sister, Fleta, has spearheaded this effort and sucked the other 2 Sisters into this. Now they are as fanatical over dead people as she is. They have taken Family vacations and traveled to different states to view county records and visit dead people’s graves. I am a little surprised they have not dug someone up as of yet. If you ‘Google” Fleta Aday you will pull up several pages of her genealogy research. They all believe their data to be factual and do not want any proof that it is not because they do not want to start all over. They have even discussed having one of our brother’s offer up a DNA sample to post on the web with their research as proof the line is correct. I don’t think we have a willing brother ‘offering up’ as of yet tho…..
