lol- love it- perhaps med. blue would work too- nice with the terracotta. Photoshop is a great way to play around with colours- l used it for the front of our house- you should have seen some of the results! arrgh- good job it was only virtual.
Claire, how about a more sedate pattern and subtle colors and you could even use a template, er or I guess "stencil" is the more correct word for it? I think it could look quite nice, be welcoming and cheer you up, and you wouldn't get tired of it if it were understated and not competing with your doorstep plants... I think that is the problem in the photoshop version. The actual potted plants are the things that should stand out...
Mind you, I've only done a lot of thinking about this, working it out in my mind, but not actually done it to our steps! (Other things to do, you know! ;-) )

interesting and unexpected indeed, no the photoshop is too bright, I may live with the plain concrete forever but stencils are a good idea,
